How Burst Testing Machine Works

Burst test is a destructive test aimed at testing the pressure resistance limit of a workpiece. Typically, the burst test machine uses water or other liquids as the testing medium, but gas medium can also be used for low-pressure burst test. The burst test machine will continuously pressurize liquid and inject it to your workpiece until it cracks. The pressure that causes your workpiece to crack is the burst pressure, which is the maximum pressure that your workpiece can withstand. Our burst testing equipment is equipped with pressure sensor and test program software, which will automatically record the burst pressure value.

Burst Pressure Test Procedures

The burst pressure testing is designed to test and obtain the pressure resistance limit of your workpiece. The burst testing includes the following three steps. Firstly activate the prefill pump to bleed air from your workpiece. Then start the high pressure pump to pressurize your workpiece constantly unit it cracks. If you are using an automatic burst testing equipment, it will automatically record the burst pressure value. For manual burst testing equipment, you need to record the pressure gauge reading at the moment of the workpiece cracking.

Manual Burst Pressure Tester

The manual burst pressure tester is a low-cost hydro testing equipment suitable for users with limited budgets. It cancels automated control kit, and retains basic components such as hydro test pump, pressure gauges and manual valves. Therefore, it still has the function of automatic pressure maintenance. However, you need to manually operate the machine and record the test data, and you also need to manually judge the test results. So its operational convenience and testing accuracy are not as good as automatic machine.

It uses water as the test medium, and the testing pressure is typically set to 1.25 times the design pressure of the workpiece. Burst pressure test is a destructive test designed to test the pressure resistance limit of a workpiece. It usually uses water as the testing medium and rarely uses gas. And there is no need to set a testing pressure for the burst test.

Both water and gas can be used as the testing medium in burst test. When you use water as the testing medium, your workpiece will only crack and develop one or a few fissures during burst testing, posing little risk to personnel and equipment safety. However, if you use gas as the testing medium, your workpiece is likely to explode into fragments and scatter everywhere, endangering personnel and equipment safety. Therefore, for safety reasons, burst pressure test primarily uses water as the testing medium. If the workpiece cannot be touched by water, gas will be used as the testing medium, but only limited to low-pressure burst testing.

Before burst testing, there are some air remaining in the workpiece. The trapped air will form many tiny bubbles under high pressure, which will seriously affect the accuracy of the test results in the burst pressure testing. Therefore, it is necessary to bleed the air from the workpiece by prefilling water into it.
