According to different testing media, the safety valve testing can be divided into PSV pneumatic test and PSV hydro test, namely PSV hydrostatic test.

What is Safety Valve Pneumatic Test
Safety valve pneumatic test, abbreviated as PSV pneumatic test, uses gas such as nitrogen and air as the medium to perform setting pressure test, reseating pressure test and sealing test on safety valve. Therefore, it is also known as safety valve gas pressure test. As is well known, gases have low density and viscosity, making them highly diffusive. Moreover, during and after the safety valve testing process, the gas medium can be directly discharged into the atmosphere, which will not pollute the safety valve interior and is relatively easy to operate. Therefore, safety valve pneumatic test is widely used.
What is Safety Valve Hydro Test
Safety valve hydrostatic test, abbreviated as PSV hydro test, uses water such as the medium to carry out setting pressure test, reseating pressure test and sealing test on safety valve. Therefore, it is also known as safety valve water pressure test. The diffusivity of water is much worse than that of gas, and water is corrosive to safety valves and safety valve testing equipment. Therefore, before testing a safety valve, you need to clean out any debris and rust. During the testing process, water will spray out from the safety valve, so you need to take waterproof measures for your testing site. After testing, you also need to drain the water from the safety valve to prevent internal corrosion. Clearly, hydraulic testing of safety valves. Obviously, PSV hydro test is a relatively complex process.
How to Select between PSV Pneumatic test and PSV Hydro Test?
The operation of safety valve pneumatic test is relatively simpler than safety valve pneumatic, so it is the preferred choice in most cases. If you need to perform a sealing test on safety valve, that is, safety valve leakage test, PSV pneumatic test is more suitable. It is important to note that high-pressure gas test is risk, while high-pressure hydro test is very safe. Therefore, if you need to perform high-pressure testing on a safety valve, please choose the safety valve hydro test method.

To facilitate users’ testing of safety valves, we offer a variety of manual and automatic safety valve tester for users to choose from. These PSV testing equipment can perform both pneumatic test and hydrostatic test on both flanged PSV and threaded PSV from DN15 to DN400. And PSV pneumatic testing pressure can reach 400bar, while PSV hydro testing pressure can reach 800bar.
