How to Reduce Gas Pressure Pulsation

The gas pressure pulsation will occur when compressing gas with a gas booster or gas compressor. In most cases, the pressure pulsation does not affect the user’s use. However, some applications require extremely high gas pressure stability, such as gas assisted injection molding, plastic foaming extrusion molding, gas leak testing. So how to reduce or even eliminate the pressure pulsation ?

What Causes Gas Pressure Pulsation ?

Pressure pulsation is the phenomenon that the gas pressure fluctuates periodically. Whether it is a gas booster or a gas compressor, they all compress gas through the reciprocating motion of the piston or diaphragm. The reciprocating motion of the piston or diaphragm is periodic, which causes the high-pressure gas flow to change periodically during the gas compression process. The gas pressure fluctuates, that is the pressure pulsation. In short, for gas boosters and gas compressors, the source of pressure pulsation is the reciprocating motion of the piston or diaphragm.

Measures to Reduce Pulsation When Using Gas Booster

When you use the gas booster to boost gas, the high-pressure gas it outputs will occur pressure pulsation, which will not affect your use in most cases. However, if you have extremely high requirements for gas pressure stability, there are three methods to reduce or even eliminate gas pulsation for you. Let me take a gas booster system with stabilizing pressure function as an example.

A gas booster system that can reduce gas pressure pulsation

1. We use double-acting gas booster to reduce gas pulsation. Gas boosters are divided into single-acting gas booster and double-acting gas booster. And the double-acting gas booster can compress gas twice in a reciprocating motion of the piston, so its pressure pulsation is much smaller than that of single-acting gas booster.
2. We add a gas buffer tank at gas booster outlet to further reduce pressure pulsation. The gas buffer tank will store the high-pressure gas output by the gas booster in advance, and organize the turbulence of the high-pressure gas flow, thereby forming a stable high-pressure gas reserve for your use at any time.
3. In addition, we add a pressure reducing valve at the outlet of the gas buffer tank, which can help you precisely adjust gas flow to your required pressure.

Through the above three measures, the gas booster system with stabilizing pressure function can output highly stable gas flow. Therefore, it can serve as a pneumatic test machine for leaking test or Co2 compressor injection system for plastic foaming and gas assisted injection molding.
