FM200, also known as HFC227, is an environmentally friendly clean agent in fire suppression system. The FM200 extinguisher contains liquid FM200 and compressed nitrogen, the latter serving as the propellant. When a fire occurs, liquid FM200 will spray from the fire extinguisher under the propulsion of compressed nitrogen, and instantly vaporize, thereby extinguishing the fire. Now let me introduce how to refill FM200 or HFC227 into fire extinguisher.
1. Clean and Dry FM200 Cylinder
This step is not mandatory, but it is necessary for the fire extinguisher cylinder that has been used for a long time. Firs remove the cylinder valve, and then place the fire cylinder on fire cylinder cleaning machine. The machine will clamp the fire cylinder and use high-pressure water to flush FM200 cylinder interior. And then flip the fire cylinder to pour out the sewage and rust stains inside it. Finally, use high temperature steam to dry the FM200 cylinder interior.
2. Reinstall Cylinder Valve onto FM200 Cylinder
Place the cleaned FM200 cylinder on the cylinder valving machine and set a mounting torque. The machine will automatically clamp the FM200 cylinder and automatically install the valve on the cylinder. And it will automatically stop when reaching your preset torque, thus avoid over-torque.
3. FM200 Cylinder Tightness Test
This step is to verify whether the cylinder valve is installed correctly and whether the tightness of the FM200 cylinder body is qualified. Then immerse the FM200 cylinder in water tank for serval minutes. And finally visually check whether the FM200 cylinder leaking by bubbling method.
4. Refill FM200 and Nitrogen into Fire Cylinder
FM200 or HFC-227 must be transferred and filled by pressurizing it, so you need to use a clean agent filling machine to refill FM200 and nitrogen gas into fire cylinders. And the FM200 extinguisher refilling operation steps are following. First, activate the clean agent filling machine to vacuum FM200 cylinder. Next, set a FM200 filling weight on the panel, and the machine will automatically pressurize FM200 and fill FM200 from your source tank into your fire cylinder. Finally use the machine to fill nitrogen gas at your desired pressure into the FM200 cylinder.
5. Mix FM200 or NOVEC and Nitrogen
The difference in density and phase between clean agent and nitrogen will cause stratification of liquid FM200 and nitrogen gas in a newly filled fire cylinder. If you don’t force mixing gases, it will take 2-3 days for FM200 and nitrogen to mix completely naturally. Therefore, you need to use the Gas mixing machine to force FM200 to mix with nitrogen gas quickly.
